Since less than 5% of the male alpacas are worthy of being stud males for breeding purposes, there will always be "pets" or "fiber boys" for sale. If you are not interested in investing in alpacas for a breeding program, you may want a couple of them as pets or for their fiber. Remember you cannot have just one as they are "herd" animals and need a companion.
 

There are only two farms in the state of Washington who raise miniature llamas, and we are one of them. A llama can be registered as a miniature any time after registration with the International Llama Registry. However, final miniature status is granted only to animals three years of age or older. They must measure no more than 38 inches at the withers or shoulders. Thus, they are smaller than a regular-sized llama, but larger than an alpaca. They are perfect for those who don't want to invest the money for an alpaca, and are fearful of a full-sized llama.

The absence of lanolin and other oils in the fleece and its extraordinary fineness of handle mean that alpaca garments are both hypoallergenic and luxuriously soft on your skin. When you put on an alpaca sweater, you will immediately notice the absence of the scratchy "prickle" found in garments made of more coarse fiber.
